What you get for $35 a year
Hosting is one of those costs that should be small and boring, and for a normal business website it is. The reason it often is not has more to do with how hosting is sold than with what it costs to run.
- Up to 5 GB of storage. Far more than a normal business site uses. A typical three page site with photos is a fraction of that.
- Served from a global network. Your pages are held close to whoever is loading them, so the site is fast for a visitor across town and a visitor across the country.
- Normal traffic costs you nothing extra. Including the spikes. If a post does well or a local news story mentions you, the bill does not change.
- The security certificate, set up and renewed. So browsers show your site as secure and nobody gets the warning screen that kills trust instantly.
- Your domain pointed properly. Including the care needed to not break your email while doing it, which is the single most common way this goes wrong.
- No renewal price jump. Thirty five dollars is the price, not an introductory rate that triples in year two.
Why hosting a small site is cheap now
A brochure website is a set of files. It does not need a database, it does not run software that has to be patched, and it does not need a server sitting there waiting for somebody to visit. Delivering those files to a few thousand people a month costs almost nothing.
What you are usually paying for at thirty dollars a month elsewhere is a control panel, a support queue, and a sales operation. Occasionally that is worth it. For a three page site for a local business, it very rarely is.
We are not reselling you something at a markup and we are not making our margin here. Hosting exists on our price list so the site we built for you has somewhere to live and you do not have to go figure it out yourself.
What this does not cover
Worth saying plainly so nobody is surprised later. This is hosting for standard business websites, meaning pages, images, and forms, under fair use. It does not cover:
- Heavy web applications or anything that needs a server side backend
- Video hosting or streaming, which belongs on a service built for it
- File storage or backup, which is a different product entirely
- Online stores with a live product catalog and checkout
- Anything with customer logins or accounts
All of those are fine things to need, and we are happy to quote them. They are just not thirty five dollars a year, and better said now than discovered later.
It also does not include email. Email lives with your email provider, and keeping those two things separate is good practice rather than an oversight. If we are moving your site, we work around your mail records carefully, because a careless change there takes a business inbox down.
Speed is the part people underrate
Hosting gets treated as a line item to minimize, which is fair, but it is also the thing quietly deciding how fast your site feels. And speed is not a vanity metric for a small business. It is the difference between somebody reading your page and somebody going back to the search results.
Think about when people actually load your site. Standing in a parking lot. Sitting in a truck between jobs. On a phone, on cell service, with the signal they happen to have. A page that loads instantly on your office broadband can take an uncomfortably long time out there, and the visitor does not wait around to find out whether it was worth it.
Two things matter most. The first is how far the files have to travel, which is what a global network solves by keeping a copy near whoever is asking. The second is how heavy the page is in the first place, which is a build decision rather than a hosting one. We care about both, which is why the sites we build are deliberately light.
If you want to check your current setup, load your own site on your phone on cell service, away from your own wifi, and count. That tells you more than any score out of a hundred.
Moving an existing site
If you already have a site somewhere and you are tired of what you are paying, moving is usually straightforward, with two honest caveats.
If your site was built on a page builder platform, it may not move cleanly. Some of those systems are designed so that what you have is only usable inside them. In that case moving means rebuilding, and you will hear that before you pay for anything rather than after.
If your email runs on the same domain, the move has to be done carefully. The records that point your website and the records that route your mail live in the same place, and the usual way a migration goes wrong is somebody replacing the whole set. We do not do that.
Hosting pairs with a site we built, but you do not have to have bought one from us. If you have a site you are happy with and just want it somewhere cheaper and faster, that is a fine reason to call.
Set up, domain pointed, certificate on, left running. Same price at renewal.
Moving a normal site is included. If your platform makes a clean move impossible we quote the rebuild first.
Checkout, customer accounts, or anything needing a backend. Different job, priced separately.
Hosting questions, answered plainly
Is $35 a year really the whole price?
For a standard business website, yes, and it is the same at renewal rather than an introductory rate. What falls outside it is listed plainly on this page: stores, logins, video hosting, and anything needing a server side backend. Those get quoted separately.
What happens if my site gets a traffic spike?
Nothing, and your bill does not change. Pages are served from a global network built to absorb that. If a post does well or a local story mentions you, the site stays up and the price stays the same.
Can I move my site away later?
Yes, any time, and we will hand over what you need to do it. A site you cannot leave is not really yours, and we would rather keep your business by being worth the money than by making it painful to go.
Will moving my site break my email?
Not if it is done properly. Website records and mail records live in the same place, and the usual cause of a broken inbox is somebody replacing the whole set rather than just the parts that point at the site. We work around your mail records deliberately.
Do you back the site up?
Yes, and for a static site that is genuinely simple, because the site is a set of files rather than a database that can corrupt. If something breaks we can put the previous version back quickly. This is one of the quiet advantages of not building on a heavy platform.
Do I need to buy a website from you to use the hosting?
No. If you already have a site you are happy with and just want it somewhere faster and cheaper, that is a perfectly good reason to call. The only caveat is that some page builder platforms do not let their sites move cleanly, and we will check that first.
Want us to handle the hosting?
Tell us your domain and roughly how big the site is. If you are moving from somewhere else we will give you a straight read on whether it is worth the hassle.
